Today I went to the Eddie Aikua big wave competition at Wiamea Bay. It wasn't the actual competition, it was just the opening ceremony for the contest. If you have never gone to the opening ceremony for the contest, I would put it on the to do list. It was cool, because some of the top names in surfing were there at the contest just within arms reach. It was a really cool event, they introduced all the surfers and gave out awards, then they had a hawaiian priest say a pray and bless the surfers in the contest. After the pray it was photo opp. time for the press, then all the surfers paddled out n the middle of the bay and formed a circle and through lei's into the middle of the circle. Oh and the waves were huge! at pin balls ( the surf break at wiamea).
